The moderation effect of the thought control strategies on relationship between severity of obsessive compulsive symptoms and metacognitions

چکیده

The purpose of the present study was to examine the moderation effect of the thought control strategies on relationship between obsessive compulsive symptoms and metacognitive beliefs. 180 female and 95 male participants whose ages difference between 18 and 52, responded demographic information questionnaire, Thought Control Questionnaire, Meta-Cognition Questionnaire30, Padua Inventory-Washington State University Revision. After combining datas, hierarchical multiple regression analyses were run to test hypotheses. Results indicated that distraction, worry, self-punishment as thought control strategies have positive effects on severity of obsessive compulsive symptoms. Moreover, social control as a thought control strategy has moderation effect on the relationship between severity of obsessive compulsive symptoms and meta-cognitive beliefs. Results of the study were discussed in relation to cognitive and meta-cognitive theories and findings in related literature. © 2014 European Journal of Research on Education by IASSR.
